Ethyl Alcohol (Ethanol) may be most effective alcohol at killing viruses

A couple of key things to know.  Research has shown that alcohols have the highest anti-microbial efficacy.  Typically Ethyl Alcohol (Ethanol), isopropyl alcohol are used.  The activity is broad and immediate.  Ethanol appears to be the most effective against viruses; whereas the propanols have a better bactericidal activity than ethanol.  The higher the concentration of alcohol does change the efficacy in anti-microbial effect with alcohol content above 80% being significantly better at reducing microbial populations compared to concentrations of 60 - 62%.
